Genesee Packaging, Inc. has been serving the diverse packaging and
corrugated needs of the automotive industry and other industrial
companies since being founded by Willie Artis and Buell Jones in
1979. Each man had years of experience in the local packaging industry
and together they set up shop on Dort Highway in Flint. Six years
later, Jones retired, leaving the company in Artis' capable hands.
Ten years after the formation of the company, Artis brought his
bride, Veronica Artis, on board to help him run the operation. "We
work very well together. We rely on each other and we've been doing
this for so long, it's like second nature," he said.
The Artis' also rely on what they call their "world class"
executive team. Senior Vice President Jane Worthing has been with
the company since its inception, hiring in at age 18. They describe
Worthing as extremely intelligent and dependable. "She can
really run the place," according to Artis.
The other members of the team are: Don Hardy, President;
Brian Hayes, Chief Financial Officer; and Terence Broussard, Manufacturing Manager. The Artis' expressed gratitude
for a dedicated workforce that continues to produce quality products
year after year.
Throughout the years the tradition of GPI has been and continues
to be to provide our customers, no matter how large or small, with
the highest quality packaging products and services at competitive
prices. This commitment to high standards has earned recognition
through various corporate awards and nominations, locally and nationally,
including the Minority Supplier of the Year Award from the Michigan
Minority Business Development Council in 1987.
Genesee Packaging has maintained Quality Certification to the ISO
standard since 1998. These Quality Policies have provided consistency
and improved lean manufacturing processes, benefiting our customers
and our company.
